With more than 120 works currently in print, including novels, collections of short stories, poetry, essays, anthologies, and children's books, Ruskin Bond has been writing for more than 60 years. The Room on the Roof, his debut book, won the coveted John Llewellyn Rhys Award in 1957. The Padma Bhushan (2014), the Padma Shri (1999), and two Sahitya Akademi awards—one for his short stories and the other for his children's literature—have also been given to him. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Delhi government in 2012. Ruskin Bond was born in 1934 and raised in Jamnagar, Shimla, New Delhi, and Dehradun. He has lived his whole life in India, with the exception of three years spent in the UK. He currently resides in Mussoorie with his adopted family.
